  • Lungs
  • Diaphragm
  • Gastrointestinal tract
  • Hepatobiliary system
  • Vascular system (malformations), and
  • Genitourinary tract.

We work closely with our colleagues in the Department of Paediatrics to provide Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care for patients requiring perioperative support.

Our paediatric surgery service includes a paediatric urology unit headed by a paediatric urologist. Paediatric patients and neonates with renal tract anomalies, congenital malformations of the genitourinary system, enuresis and neurogenic bladder are treated here. Our paediatric urology service offers office ultrasounds, video urodynamics, biofeedback therapy, and uroflow studies.

We work closely with our colleagues from paediatric nephrology, paediatric neurology and rehabilitation medicine. Patients requiring multidisciplinary team input are discussed and co-managed in the combined clinic for children with spina bifida and combined nephrology-urology clinic.

In UMMC, we aim to use the least invasive surgical technique whenever possible. Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) reduces post-operative pain, results in smaller scars and shortens recovery times. We provide a range of MIS procedures, including endoscopic, thoracoscopic and laparoscopic surgeries for children.

We provide a full range of surgical oncology services for extra-cranial solid tumours, working closely with our specialist colleagues in the Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Unit in a cohesive multidisciplinary tumour board. Together with the Paediatric Anaesthesia team and Operating Theatre staff, we have regular dedicated central venous access insertion lists which ensure timely delivery of care to our patients.

We are the leading centre in the country providing paediatric living donor liver transplant services.

This service is supported by a dedicated team  of members from the surgical (Hepatobiliary, Paediatric Surgery and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery), Anaesthesia, Paediatric Intensive Care, Paediatric Gastroenterology, Medical Imaging and Nursing teams.
